Architecture with The Building Exploratory
Tuesdays 5 – 7pm, 30 September – 2 December
Green means go – An art and architecture project for young people, exploring Newington Green through model making and animation.
Architecture and animation come together; grab this chance to find out about the historic and contemporary buildings on Newington Green before creating 3-D architectural models and getting to grips with animation techniques. The project will culminate in the making of short animation sequences for webcasting.
Sound and Music Production
Wednesdays 5 –7 pm 1 October – 3 December
An All Change sound recording and production project led by sound artists Jessica Marlowe and Tony Nwachukwu. Imagine and create your own soundtracks and music using professional production equipment. Explore the local area, record sound effects on location using professional recording equipment and create your own sounds and beats, using street sounds and voices from the past and present day. The project will include visits to professional recording studios and sound archives. Your work will be shared through an event at the end of the project.
Digital Interiors
Tuesdays 5 – 7pm, 7 October – 2 December
An All Change digital and visual arts project led by Heather Barnett. Using the Geffrye Museum’s collection of historic interior design as inspiration, develop your own designs for contemporary rooms, walls and fabrics using photography, drawing and words. Work with digital imaging, drawing and photography to create contemporary designs and patterns that express your ideas about history, interior design and your local area. The project will include inspirational visits to exhibitions at the V&A Museum and a professional design studio. Your work will be displayed at the end of the project in an exhibition at Islington Museum.
Creative Photography
Thursdays 5 – 7pm, 2 October – 4 December
An All Change creative photography project led by Sarah Ainslie. Exploring the history of portraiture, you’ll use portraits of famous people in Newington Green’s history as inspiration to create your own modern photographic portraits. Using professional photography equipment, you’ll experiment with photo manipulation using digital technology at the museum, in a mobile studio and out and about on location in Islington.
The project will include visits to a professional studio and exhibitions at the National Portrait Gallery and your work will be displayed at the end of the project in an exhibition at Islington Museum.
Magazine Design and Production
Mondays 5.30 – 7pm, 29 September – 1 December
Newington Green Time Travel – Are you interested in journalism, reporting, editing or design? Find ways of getting in touch with Newington Green’s past and the people, places and events that made it. Contribute and develop a new local youth publication through research, writing, photographing, interviewing or designing and have your work read by thousands of people.
Drama with The Young Actors Theatre
Tuesdays, 5.30 – 7pm, 30 September – 2 December
You’ll be exploring and developing performance skills and what it takes to put on a piece of drama based on stories, archive material and other information about Newington Green, past and present.
Whether you’re a seasoned actor, have never stood up in front of an audience before, fancy making use of other skills or experience you may have already (such as dance or music), this is a great opportunity to get involved in making a show with a difference.
